Experience with custom data logger?

I got a buddy who's into 3D printing and he suggested to make a custom data logger for my 2022 YZF-R7. The idea is interesting but since it could modify my bike parts and impact my experience, I'm still on the edge. Has anyone here tried setting up something similar on their bike? Curious to know if this is something I should pursue, what considerations I should be aware of? I'd appreciate getting your insights!

That's a pretty slick idea and props to your buddy for thinking outside the box. I've seen a guy on YouTube rig a low cost microcontroller with a touchscreen to log RPM, throttle and GPS on his R7. Before jumping in, I'd check how it mounts and whether it messes with airflow or wiring. What kind of data are you hoping to track?

Careful not to mess with your bike's electronics, airflow or reliability tho. Mounting, waterproofing and clean wiring are key. If your buddy knows his stuff, it could be worth trying, just weigh the risk if your bike's still under warranty.

Unless you're racing or tuning professionally, a custom data logger is overkill and adds unnecessary complexity. For casual riding, it's more a gadget than a real benefit...stock sensors and dash give plenty.
