Checking the steering head while changing fork springs

This past weekend, while I was changing the fork springs on my R7, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the steering head bearings since everything was already disassembled

The bike's only got 9,000 miles on it, but I'm not the first owner. I'm glad I decided to check, it seemed like someone had been in there before. The grease was packed in strange spots, but after a good clean-up, the bearings and races still looked really good

I'm holding off on putting everything back together for now because I just ordered a GPR stabilizer too. Fortunately, my buddy's old R6 stem socket fit perfectly

Nice job checking the steering head bearings while you were changing the fork springs on your R7. That odd grease is a sign that someone has definitely been in there before. Since the bearings and races look clean and good, you should be all set for now.

Its wild how many bikes leave the factory or even service shops with poorly greased steering head bearings, almost feels like proper maintenance is treated as optional nowadays
