Coolant level question for a new owner

My friend sold me his 2022 R7 and I was doing some basic checks on it. I noticed the coolant reservoir looks completely empty when the engine is cold. He told me this is normal for this bike and that it fills up when it gets hot. Is that actually correct for the R7? I want to learn the proper way so where should the level be when checking it cold?

Good call on checking. The reservoir on the R7 shouldnt be empty when cold, there should be coolant between the "low" and "full" marks. If its dry, its not normal, and you'll want to top it off and keep an eye out for any leaks

Was able to get some coolant and fill the reservoir to the proper level. After a few heat cycles and short rides I haven't spotted any leaks under the bike. Since the maintenance history is a little unknown, should I plan on doing a full system flush soon?
